Tournament Rules

The rules of the Homecoming 3 on 3 Tournament are in place to ensure that the event follows our philosophy and key principles:

1. We are here to have fun. Yes, there will be a champion, but we are all winners if we can walk out of the arena with no injuries.

2. Our Liquor License is very important to the SJAA, if we lose it because someone breaks the rules, we all lose, including the kids who we give bursaries and other financial assistance to. Strike one, you (and maybe your entire team) are out.

3. Our rules surrounding safety, and safety equipment are also very important; much like the Liquor License, our Event Insurance is a needed entity, and without it, this event, and the beneficiaries from it do not occur.

If anyone is expelled from this event, they and/or their team may not be allowed back into any SJAA events in the future; this will be determined by the Directors of the SJAA.
To be reinstated, a $100 donation to the SJAA will be required prior to the review.

Rules of game play (19+ Years of Age Only):

-All equipment worn MUST be CSA approved. Sorry, no Gretzky Jofa buckets, etc. etc. (sad face emoji)
-Mandatory equipment includes CSA approved Helmet, Gloves, Skates & Stick
-3 players per team on the playing surface at one time.
-One player on the ice at all times, must be a female. (*See below)
-To start the game, the faceoff will be “N” “H” “L” and go.
-Following a goal, the scoring team will retreat to half-ice and allow play to resume.
-Substitutions can occur on the fly.
-No raising the puck in high traffic zones, “we all need to go to work tomorrow drink beer later.”
-No slapshots. YOU (THE PLAYER) ARE RESPONSIBLE TO ANY DAMAGE TO SMHA EQUIPMENT
-No hooking, slashing, high sticking, etc. etc., you will go to the box and feel shame…
-Goals will be scored through the spaces/slots on the 2x4 nets, FROM THE FRONT.
-*NEW* “Goaltending” is not considered a sportsmanlike venture in this event…
-Keep track of your own score
-Please ensure you have one representative from WINNING team report the to the score booth as soon as your game ends.
▪Upcoming games & their locations will be posted at the score booth as well.
-Games will be 10 minutes long, with 2-minute intervals between sets of games.
-Each team will be guaranteed 3 games, the final game is double knock out (if needed).
-In the event of a tie, round-robin games will be decided by a ‘best 2 out of 3’ Paper-Rock- Scissors game.
-For the final, a ‘next goal wins’ scenario will be put in place with time remaining; if time is not available, or if the tie is still not settled at the conclusion of this extra time, a ‘best 2 out of 3’ Paper-Rock-Scissors game will decide the 3 on 3 championship.
-*If a team cannot field a team that has at least one female, said team will start each of their games with a minus one (-1) goal penalty.

Rules & Expectations
Rules surrounding alcohol (19+ Years of age in serving area only):

-We promise to sell it at reasonable prices (this being a fundraising event and all).
-No smoking or vaping inside any part of the facility – failure to comply will result in you, and possibly your team, being asked to leave. (Refer to reinstatement rules above).
-Alcohol will…
-ONLY be consumed in designated areas in arena & banquet space. There will be signs posted. Nothing leaves the building as the parking lot is a no-go booze zone.
-NOT be consumed on the ice...
-ONLY be consumed on the bench respectfully (clean up after yourselves), do not pass beer to teams in play.
-ONLY be consumed in a professional manner, if we need to cut you off, we will.
▪If this is a problem, you will be asked to leave the facility and the event, as will your team.
•Refunds will not be given if this is the case.

Thank you for following these rules and expectations.

The SJAA is committed to providing the youth of Summerland with positive opportunities to play hockey and provide financial assistance for post-secondary ventures; your safe and respectful participation in events like this makes that all a reality.
Again, we thank you.
